The Eton E1100 is a palm-sized FM, MW, SW radio.
Features and Performance
This tiny analogue radio offers a digital frequency readout – but doesn’t have the benefit of PLL tuning.
First impressions are of a solid well designed radio. The radio has a lie-back stand for stable operation.
The tuning knob on the radio’s side enables you to quickly scan up and down your chosen band.
The LCD display has good sized digits but ‘ghosting’ can make the display difficult to read.
FM, MW and SW bands are available – but there is no LW coverage. SW coverage is broken up into 10 sub-bands, but some key frequencies are not covered.
FM reception performance was good, much better than most cheap portables, but not as good as models such as the Roberts R9914.
MW performance was fine for strong stations. SW reception was fine for strong broadcasts, but this is not a good radio for seeking out weak signals.
Sound quality is crisp, good for general listening, from the small speaker. Stereo is available on FM over earphones.
The radio has a manually set clock, single alarm, plus snooze and sleep functions. It runs on 2 AA batteries or you can purchase an optional mains adapter.
Conclusion
A useful budget multi-band radio. The radio is supplied with a wrap around padded plastic case.
