As a budget Qwerty model the Genio Qwerty (aka Corby TXT) is aimed at text messaging and email addicts. The Genio Qwerty competes in that corner of the market with models like Nokia’s E63 and INQ’s Chat 3G - however Samsung’s phone is shorter on features than either, helping to keep the price down. The Genio Qwerty is limited to a 2.5G EDGE data connection, and unlike the E63 is not a smartphone meaning support for things like push email is not possible. Unusually (for 2010), the handset doesn’t come with a Facebook application either, though Samsung’s usual reasonable media player software and the rare ability to record FM radio are present. The Genio Qwerty’s 2MP camera is very basic, with no autofocus or flash, but that’s not unexpected given the price. What’s a bit more disappointing is the display, which is rather low-resolution even for its modest size, limiting the amount of information that can be shown and the sharpness of the screen. The Genio Qwerty’s keypad is its key feature, and with solid design in that area if you are looking for a Qwerty keypad on a tight budget then it certainly gets the basics right. Those keen on a slightly more modern feeling phone with better email or social networking support should look elsewhere, however.
